Cristian Muñoz, a 30-year-old Colombian cyclist for Nu Colombia since 2024, passed away on Friday due to injuries sustained in a crash during the Tour de Jura in France last week.

Muñoz, who previously competed with UAE Team Emirates from 2019 to 2021, died in Oviedo, Spain. His team stated that the cause was “medical complications resulting from the accident suffered on Saturday during the Tour du Jura in France.”
His health deteriorated in recent days, leading to intensive care due to a bacterial infection. The team detailed: “After the crash, Cristian was initially treated at a medical facility for a wound on his left knee. Upon arriving in Oviedo, he was reevaluated at a clinic, where medical staff detected a difficult-to-treat infection requiring specialist care.”
Nu Colombia, which withdrew from the Vuelta a Asturias before the start of the second stage, added: “In recent hours, his clinical evolution became complicated, and despite all efforts, Cristian passed away on the morning of this Friday.”
Muñoz’s best results came during his junior career, including a stage win and seventh overall in the 2018 Giro Under-23.
