Federico Bernardeschi opened the scoring in the 9th minute, and Riccardo Orsolini doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 34th minute. Napoli fought back before halftime, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo pulling one back in the 45th minute. Early in the second half, Alisson Santos leveled the score in the 48th minute, setting up a tense finale. However, Bologna had the final say as Jonathan Rowe struck in the 90th minute to snatch all three points.
