Journalist and presenter Will Buxton has taken a swipe at Mercedes driver George Russell, accusing him of being overly self-assured.
Speaking on the *Up to Speed* podcast, Buxton said: “Today I saw a quote where he said something like, ‘If I had entered Formula 1 five years earlier, I’d probably already have a couple of championship titles by now.’ I don’t like that level of arrogance. It’s as if he believes that if he’d arrived earlier, he’d already be a two-time world champion. Would he? Really? I don’t think so. It bothers me that he seems to feel this success is somehow owed to him. And the fact that Kimi has come in and already surpassed him in raw speed says a lot.”
Co-host Naomi Schiff backed Buxton’s view, adding: “I think those words will come back to haunt him. If you’re going to talk like that, at least start by beating your teammate first.”
