The Oakland Athletics have placed shortstop Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list due to a left shoulder subluxation, the team announced ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury on Sunday while diving for a ground ball hit by Baltimore Orioles’ Gunner Henderson, resulting in a single. An MRI taken on Monday confirmed the subluxation. The move is retroactive to Monday, and according to MLB.com, surgery is not expected. Wilson will instead undergo a rehabilitation program before returning to baseball activities, though no specific timeline has been set for his return.
After a challenging start to the season, Wilson had been regaining the form that earned him an All-Star selection in 2025. Over his last 27 games, he hit .336 with an .826 OPS. Overall, Wilson is batting .292 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 2026, following a .196 average through his first 12 games. In his third major league season, he owns a career .299 average, 16 homers, and 85 RBIs across 192 games. The Athletics selected him sixth overall in the 2023 draft.
With Wilson sidelined, infielder Darell Hernaiz is expected to see the majority of playing time at shortstop, similar to his role in 2025 when Wilson fractured his left forearm. The Athletics also recalled outfielder Henry Bolte, their No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, and brought up infielder Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Las Vegas. Stefanic, who hit .250 with a .706 OPS in 34 games for Las Vegas, could log time at second and third base. He has limited MLB experience with the Angels (2022-24) and Blue Jays (2025), batting .227 with 14 RBIs in 99 career games.
